Every automation project starts with the same question: what should carry the signals? The honest answer is that it depends on the building, the budget and, above all, the timing.
When wired wins
If walls are still open, a wired KNX backbone is the most dependable choice we know. It is a thirty-year-old open standard, every major manufacturer supports it, and a single bus cable can carry lighting, shading, climate and sensors without ever touching your Wi-Fi.
When wireless makes sense
Finished interiors change the equation. Retrofit Matter and Zigbee devices fit into existing back boxes and ceilings, so a penthouse can be automated in days with no dust and no visible changes. The trade-off is a little more care in network design, which is where we spend our time.
Most homes end up with both
In practice we usually combine them: a wired core for the systems that must never fail, and wireless at the edges for lamps, sensors and the odd room that was finished before anyone thought about automation.
